This is the town of Temple View....
All of the buildings by the Rugby Field are part of Church College.
In 1958, The church opened Church College (High School) so the youth of New Zealand could have a good education. Almost everyone we know here in New Zealand, went to Church College and have such good memories of their time there. Three years ago, the Prophet came to New Zealand and decided to shut the school down....it had served it's purpose. New Zealand now has schools that are up to par, and He thought the Teen age kids needed to be in their homes with their families.
The church is going to tear the buildings down and build a new project here. No one is quite sure what the new project is going to be, so there is a lot of mixed emotion about it. They may do satellite BYU courses, so the kids can get a BUY degree...sort of like BYU Hawaii and BYU Idaho.
They have also talked of a retirement community...from unassisted to assisted living.
They will keep the library building as a museum, but the rest of the buildings are coming down.
Lavell Goodwin was one of the head contractors called here on a mission back in the day, to construct the buildings of Temple View and the Temple. TeRia was born here. There is a street names after him...Goodwin Terrace. Whenever we ask any of the old people who worked on the temple if they knew Lavell, they all remember him! One guy told us how competitive he was at basketball and all sports! Church College was always known for its sports. They always won in every sport! It's fun to talk to people about their memories here. It makes me sad in a way that it will be torn down soon. These people love it so much. I know whatever the church decides to do with the property will be awesome. They always do things right. I'm sure the prophet was inspired to shut it down. Teenagers really do need to be home with their families...not living in dorms. Although... Church College was a wonderful place for young adults to meet other members of the church to date and marry. That will be the challenge for the YSA of New Zealand....to find a spouse in the church. I'm sure it will all work out in the long run.
This is a picture of a picture!
Just another picture in front of the temple on a beautiful autumn day!
